I’m sure you’re wondering, why out of all those other essential oil companies did I choose Young Living? I could keep this short and sweet, since the answer is three words. Seed to Seal. Those three words are oh so much more and they deserve to be elaborated on.
I should start by saying there is currently no standards for labeling essential oils. Any company can claim “100% Natural”, “100% Pure”, “All Natural”, or even “Therapeutic” but there is no regulation behind that claim. Because of this, you have no way of knowing the quality of the oil. This was scary thought for me and almost stopped me from pursuing essential oils any further! I had invested too much time and money in ensuring my family was living a chemical, additive free lifestyle. I didn’t want to risk using anything on me or my family without truly knowing what was in it. After some information from a friend involved with Young Living and some research on my part; I found what I was looking for with their Seed to Seal mentality.
Seed to Seal is Young Living’s guarantee that they will control the entire process of producing pure, therapeutic grade oils; from carefully selecting the seeds they plant, to ensuring the highest standards through the cultivation and growing process, to using innovative distilling of the oils to preserve their precious constituents, then testing each oil they’ve distilled to make sure they meet stringent standards, all the way to bottling and sealing each oil to make sure you receive the very best essential oil available for you and your family. Young Living owns its own farms, its own distilleries, and its own laboratories to achieve the highest quality control standards. Because of all of this, you can rest assured that Young Living won’t allow a substandard product to leave its facilities. That was just what I was looking for! I want to know where my oils are coming from and what process they’ve been through!
Before we dive into the five steps of the seed to seal process, let’s discuss soil. Because that’s where it all begins.
✓Young Living prepares the soil for FIVE years; growing alfalfa to naturally increase the nitrogen content of the soil.
✓Young Living utilizes organic farming practices.

Step 1: SEED
Powerful essential oils come from seeds and plants that are verified for their potential to produce high-quality essential oils.
Their own experts partner with university researchers to evaluate the essential oil potential of our seeds.
The seeds they use are selected for their ability to become plants with the highest possible levels of bioactive compounds.
✓Young Living is the only company in the US with Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia officinalus) grown from original seed stock.
✓Pure therapeutic oils only come from original plant stock, not hybrid plants.
Step 2: CULTIVATE
Young Living farms, located around the globe, are dedicated to perfecting our responsible and sustainable growing and harvesting methods.
Their experts travel the world visiting our co-op farms to verify that their growing and cultivating processes match our high standards.
These operations provide an ongoing source for essential oils that meet Young Living’s demanding quality standards.
✓Young Living DOES NOT use chemicals, and chemicals never touch the plants.
✓Young Living utilizes the plant material after it has been distilled by composting it for a natural fertilizer
Step 3: DISTILL
Combining ancient and modern techniques, Young Living is recognized as an innovator in essential oil distillation.
They use a gentle, proprietary technique for steam extracting essential oils and preserving their precious constituents.
They use cold pressing and resin tapping methods for select oils.
✓Young Living’s oils standards exceed ISO and AFNOR standards.
✓Every step of the distillation process has to be exactly right to produce a viable therapeutic oil. If one thing goes wrong, the oil will not be up to standards. Young Living has been known to throw away or use the oil for weed control if it does not meet their standards for active constituents.
✓Most other essential oil companies use practices of extracting oils at high heat, high pressure, and with chemical solvents. This can leave the final product having the aroma of the plant, but in the process the therapeutic quality has been destroyed. These lesser-quality oils can be extremely toxic if used therapeutically!
Step 4: TEST
Young Living never accepts diluted, cut, or adulterated oils.
To guarantee consistent, verifiable quality, our oils are tested in Young Living’s own internal labs, as well as in third-party facilities.
Their testing methods ensure that their oils meet stringent specifications, exceed international standards, and contain the desired levels of natural bioactive compounds.
✓Every single oil is tested when it enters the lab. Some oils are tested every fifteen minutes during the distillation process.
✓Oils are sent out to third parties like Dr. Casabianca, Weber State University, Brigham Young University, Oklahoma State University, and Salalah, Oman for additional testing.
Step 5: SEAL
Young Living completes the Seed to Seal process in their 107,000-square-foot facility in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Handling with Care
Using state-of-the-art equipment, each essential oil is carefully bottled and labeled.
Their carefully bottled, painstakingly produced essential oils are shipped to members worldwide.
So that right there folks. That’s why I choose Young Living oils for me and my family! That and most importantly…they work!
