How To Use Essential Oils

There are three ways to use Young Living Essential Oils: Topically, Aromatically, and by Ingestion.

applyTOPICALLY means to apply directly to the body. It is recommended you dilute your oil with a carrier oil. Some essential oils are “hot” oils, so you’ll always use a carrier oil with them. (Thieves, PanAway, and Peppermint are all examples of hot oils that should always be diluted.) Apply to vita flex points (vitality through the reflexes on hands and feet) that correspond with the area you are looking for support in.

inhaleAROMATICALLY means to breathe in the oils. A diffuser is the easiest way to use essential oils aromatically, but you can also put a drop or two in your hands and cup them over your nose and mouth and breathe deeply. You could even put a little essential oils on a cotton ball and stick it into the vents of your car!

ingestINGESTING your oils means to swallow them – either in drink or food, or by filling a vegetable capsule. Many of Young Living’s essential oils can be used internally and taken orally as a dietary supplement. Not all oils are made to be ingested, so please refer to the label of each oil for proper usage instructions. NOTE: All “Vitality” oils are part of Young Living’s dietary oils line and can be ingested if you choose to do so.

WHAT IS A CARRIER OIL? A carrier oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or the nuts. Carrier oils are important to help stretch your essential oils, both to help carry the oils to a greater area on the body and to adjust the heat in those hot oils.

Some carrier oil options:

  • Coconut Oil (preferably unrefined and organic, if you can find it)

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil

  • Sunflower Oil

  • Young Living’s V6 Oil Blend

  • Olive Oil

  • Almond Oil

  • Jojoba Oil

  • Avocado Oil

  • The body absorbs oils the fastest through inhalation.
  • A 15ml bottle of oil contains about 250 drops; a 5ml bottle contains about 80 drops.
  • Each oil has a frequency, and each of our organs and body parts has a frequency.  The frequency of an oil is attracted by a like frequency within the body. Low-frequency oils may support physical changes in the body. Middle-frequency oils may support emotional changes in the body. High-frequency oils may support spiritual changes in the body.
